If nothing else, 2020 has helped us gain a new perspective. Maybe you learned a new skill. Or you learned to have more patience. Maybe you are still trying to figure out what you were supposed to learn. Regardless, 2020 was one for the books.
It is crazy to think through all the stuff that went on this year. At the beginning of the year, all eyes were on the fires in Australia. Then the focus shifted to China and the Covid-19 virus. Then realization hit that this thing was spreading faster than the fires in Australia. Not only did it become a pandemic, but panic hit and toilet paper seemed to be the thing we couldn’t live without. (Moment to reflect on mankind’s perspective on what’s important…).
Then the world took a very emotional turn as the whole black lives matter thing evolved. My personal opinion is that ALL lives matter. But emotions have a way of making us gain a new perspective. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could detach ourselves from emotions long enough to evaluate our thought processes? We might find we never would have said certain things. Hey, it’s not too late to gain a new perspective.
Our own world changed as my husband was let go and I had to leave my work so I could be available to help my mom with my dad who has advanced Alzheimers. Similar situations played out around the world as lockdowns were set in place. Many people lost their livelihood due to the pandemic.
That’s when we decided to start a flower farm.
I had already done one spring and two summer seasons of flower farming as part of the job I had. And I had fallen in love with it. Basically, it was time to gain a new perspective.
So, here we are. I learned how to start hardy annuals in my zone for spring 2021. I am SO looking forward to seeing some new (to me) flowers!! And seeing beautiful colors, and pollinators soaking up the beauty as well. I will enjoy giving folks something to smile about as they liven their homes with some of the best nature has to offer.
How about you? Have you gained a new perspective this year?
