On August 17th we planted the following seeds:
Roma Tomato (85 days) Early Treat Tomato (49 days) Jalapeno Pepper (72 days) Pole Bean (62 days) Cucumber (50 days) | Oregano (45 days) Coriander (45 days) Onion (110 days) Sunflower (60-90 days) |
Our hope is to have them ready to plant by mid-September into two small hoop houses to demonstrate the functionality of the Smart AG demo.
The idea behind the initial test environment is to demonstrate that proactive monitoring of soil moisture increases overall crop health and overall yield. This will be a simple or rudimentary test focusing, initially, on just soil moisture sensing. Additional functionality such as ambient temperature, humidity, soil temperature, etc. will be added in future phases.
The initial environments will be two hoop houses, side by side containing the same crops, as listed above. Soil moisture sensors (Manufactured by Seeed) will be installed into one hoop house for monitoring and notifications. The other hoop house will not have sensors installed, following the traditional model of farmer intuition to determine if watering is needed.
Below is a diagram of the use case:
